Maurizio Sarri ‘keen on Kepa Arrizabalaga reunion’ as Lazio boss targets loan transfer swoop for Chelsea goalkeeper

A FRESH report has claimed that Maurizio Sarri wants to reunite with Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.

The Spanish stopper was brought to Stamford Bridge by the Italian back in 2018 for £71.6million from Athletic Bilbao.

Now Sarri, who is in charge of Lazio back in his Italian homeland, wants to sign him on a season-long loan.

Speculation has been rife for several months that the Serie A side were plotting a move for the goalkeeper.

However, a deal failed to materialise during the January transfer window.

But Corriere dello Sport now claims that Sarri will attempt to get Kepa this summer on a season-long loan – despite the pair’s infamous Wembley fall-out.

Back in February 2019 in the Carabao Cup Final, the duo were caught in an astonishing on-field row that left Sarri absolutely raging.

The Italian gaffer wanted to bring his keeper off the field after he went down with cramp just minutes before Chelsea’s Carabao Cup Final penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City.

With penalty specialist Willy Caballero ready to come on and the board raised, Arrizabalaga sensationally refused to budge – leading to him being axed for their following matches.

Sarri left that summer, but Kepa has still not been able to restore himself as undisputed No1 at the Blues since and could be looking for a fresh start elsewhere.

However, his £150,000-a-week wages could prove to be an issue.

Kepa suffered further Carabao Cup Final agony last week when he came off the bench for the penalty shoot-out with LIverpool.

But he failed to save a single one before missing the vital kick to hand the Reds the trophy.
