The Australian international fullback was injured early in Lyon’s Champions League final defeat of Barcelona in May. She had to take part in the celebrations on crutches.
Carpenter is engaged in a race to be fit for the home-hosted 2023 Women’s World Cup but can work on her recovery safe in the knowledge her club have backed her.

The 20-year-old Matilda said: “I am very honoured to extend my contract at this magnificent club. I learned a lot during these first two years and now I’m here until 2026!
“I’m injured right now but I’m working hard to get back on the pitch and win titles again.”
The deal is also an indication that Lyon will continue to invest in women’s football following a deal for American businessman John Textor to takeover from long-time president Jean-Michel Aulas – who has made Lyon the best women’s team in Europe.
Textor, a part-owner of English club Crystal Palace, will complete the acquisition over a period of years with Aulas remaining president for “at least three years”.
