Oakland Roots are coming off their second win of the season and their first at home as they beat LA Galaxy II, 2-1 on Saturday. Roots were led by two of Oaklands own, Max Ornstil and Yohannes Harish who both found the back of the net for their first time for Oakland Roots. Now the team looks to push on as they face New Mexico United for the first time in USL Championship play.
Roots first ever USL Championship signing Saalih Muhammed returns to his former club for the first time. The Richmond, California native spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons with New Mexico making 34 appearances and scoring one goal.
About New Mexico United:
New Mexico United is coming off a late equalizing goal vs El Paso on Saturday night. United had a 1-0 lead but conceded in the 97th minute dropping two points late. New Mexico currently sits in 6th place on 23 points from 17 games in the Mountain division.
