MATCH PREVIEW: BUL FC HOST GADDAFI IN JINJA DERBY. | BUL FC

Kyabazinga stadium will provide the setting as BUL FC clash heads with neighbours Gaddafi FC in Uganda Premier League this Sunday.

The Eastern Giants make their first return to Kyabazinga stadium in more than three weeks, and this time they face locals – Gaddafi who are in their early stage of topflight football.

Three positions and five points separate the two teams and they find themselves in completely contrasting situations.

BUL had to deal with their own setback in late October when they lost home to Express. But, Alex Isabirye and company have not allowed that result to affect their performances henceforth as they made light work of Onduparaka, Mbarara City and SC Villa to beat them 2-0, 1-0 and 2-1 respectively in addition to drawing away to URA.

Currently, they sit third on the table with 13 points, and a win in the derby will take them past second-placed Vipers SC and to three points within leaders KCCA FC.

As for the Soldier Boys, they had to make a swift change in management after a flurry of poor results at the start of the season.

Our former head coach Peter Onen was contracted to lead their renaissance and a win against Arua Hill SC in their last league fixture brought them some joy, but their performance in the 0-0 draw versus regional side Admin FC in a practice match posed more questions than answers.

Gaddafi FC are placed 7th on the log with 8 points.

This will be the first competitive but third meeting between the two sides. Isabirye’s men defeated their city rivals 1-0 at Fufa Technical Center in a practice match earlier this year following a two all draw in 2020.

What they said

Team manager Alex Isabirye:

“It is going to be a tough one because Gaddafi has started winning games. Both teams are from the same area and almost close to each other, and players of both sides have practiced and played together for so long. Therefore, the game won’t be easy.”

“But, I emphasize that we are trying to build a competitive team. We are at home and we need the three points because we have been teaching our players on how to get them.”

Captain George Kasonko:

“There is no weak team in a derby but how you prepare for such a game determines the result you get.”

“We as players are committed to getting the three points in each game we play. We have now focused on tomorrow’s game and the mission is to get the three points on offer.”

“We thank the management and our coaches for preparing us well and putting us in the perfect conditions to win tomorrow’s game.”
