Manchester United have rejected a loan offer from Sevilla for wantaway forward Anthony Martial.
Martial, who is said to earn £200k-a-week at Old Trafford, has told manager Ralf Rangnick he wants to leave the Premier League club in order to get more playing time elsewhere.
However, according to multiple reports Sevilla have only offered to pay half of Martial’s wages for in the six-month loan offer and United are said to be unwilling to accept those terms.
The France forward has become a fringe player in recent years, making just two Premier League starts this season and only four in all competitions.
Rangnick admitted the player told him he wants to leave last week and Sevilla, as well as newly-rich Newcastle, have been linked strongly with a move for the Frenchman.
However, the German insists the player will only be allowed to leave if the right offer is made.
“We spoke at length on Wednesday,” said Rangnick last week.
“He explained to me he’s been at Manchester United now for the last seven years and he feels it’s the right time for a change, to go somewhere else.
“I think in a way this is understandable, I could follow his thoughts but on the other hand, it’s also important to see the situation of the club.
“We have Covid times, we have three competitions in which we still have high ambitions and want to be as successful as we can be.”
Martial has helped United to three trophies during his six years at Old Trafford – an FA Cup, League Cup and the Europa League.
He’s netted 79 goals in 268 appearances during his time with the Premier League giants.
He’s shown glimpses of immense talent and patches of good form, but he’s never delivered for the Red Devils for a consistent period of time.
United are considering cashing in on their player as he is now entering his prime years and the club could demand a considerable fee for their forward.
