Manchester United mocked after allowing both Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani to sit out FA Cup tie.

After nearly a decade without a Premier League trophy, past glories do seem a distant memory at Old Trafford, with the club under constant scrutiny.

The Mason Greenwood police investigation has put a further dark cloud over Manchester United and yesterday’s team news also came as shock to fans and former players of United.

It was announced Edinson Cavani will miss tonight’s FA Cup fourth round tie at home to Middlesbrough, as he is recovering from jet lag after international duty.

Cavani has been rested due to jet lag.

But perhaps more shockingly, Lingard has been given time off to ‘clear his head’, despite coming off the back of a break in Dubai as he was not involved on international duty.

The criticism coming to the club has come from former players such as Gary Neville who took to Twitter to show his displeasure over the decision.

The reason Lingard has been given this time off is down to the fact he missed out on a potential loan move away from the club in January. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick explained much of his decision was down to Greenwood now being unavailable for the foreseeable future.

Rangnick will be hoping his side can come through comfortably tonight and can move on from an extremely difficult week.
