Mark Goldbridge has urged Manchester United to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria in the upcoming transfer window.
With the future of club-record signing Paul Pogba still very much uncertain, United have been linked with numerous midfield players who could potentially add depth to their side. Ruben Neves, Declan Rice and Jack Grealish are all midfielders that United have been linked with the club in recent weeks – as it begins to look increasingly like United could perhaps cash in on Pogba this summer to finance a move.
However, Goldbridge has urged United to sign 24-year-old Bundesliga star Zakaria, who has been touted by The Athletic as someone who could come in and solve United’s problems and be the anchor of their midfield.
Speaking on The United Stand’s YouTube channel, Goldbridge had this to say:
“I think Zakaria, you would get for 35 million. I’m a big fan of Zakaria. I hope that he comes to Manchester United, but if he doesn’t come to Manchester United, I hope that he goes to Spurs or someone like that and does really well.
“I’m convinced he will be a good player. I really do think he’ll be a good player in the Premier League.”

Many pundits believe United need to upgrade on the partnership of Scott McTominay and Fred if they are hopeful of going one better next season and wrestling the title away from the palms of Manchester City, and Zakaria could be the answer.
According to FBRef, Zakaria had an 88.5% pass completion rate for Borussia Monchengladbach in all competitions, a stat where he performed better than both McTominay (87.3%) and Fred (88.2%).
Currently valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, Zakaria could be a good piece of business, especially when compared to the fee it would take West Ham to part with their star man Declan Rice – with the Hammers reportedly valuing him as high as £90m.
