Manchester United: Dean Jones moots potential Eric Bailly departure

[ad_1]

Transfer expert Dean Jones has suggested during The Football Terrace’s ‘The Done Deal Show’ that Manchester United ‘prefer Pau Torres to Jules Kounde’ and suggested that Eric Bailly ‘might leave’ the club this summer, despite signing a new contract.

Bailly agreed to sign a contract extension with Manchester United in April, which runs out in 2024 but Jones suggests that Bailly still might leave the club, with reports that the club are pursuing a centre-back this summer.

Jones also suggests that Pau Torres is United’s ‘preferred’ target at centre-back and there may be a deal on the cards for the Villarreal centre-back with Bailly going the other way…

“I was told that they preferred Pau Torres to Jules Kounde, then Eric Bailly signed his new contract, which changed things a little bit because there’s suddenly less pressure on United to sign another centre-back because a lot of people didn’t think that would happen; I thought Bailly might leave.

“As it is, I’m told that Bailly might still leave and that’s why this might still be a possibility, and actually Bailly might end up going back to Villarreal, so that’s perhaps something to look for going forward.”

TIF Thoughts on Bailly leaving Manchester United…

It would be strange seeing Bailly sign a new deal at the club to leave a few months later but, if you believe reports, centre-back is an area that Manchester United have looked to strengthen for a while and selling the 27-year-old could potentially free up funds for a big signing in that position.

Bailly has struggled with injuries since joining Manchester United in 2016 for just under £35 million from Villarreal and Jones has suggested that he could end up back there, potentially as part of a deal to bring Pau Torres to Manchester.

After finishing second in the Premier League last season and narrowly missing out on Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s first bit of silverware as United boss in the Europa League final, United will presumably be hoping to strengthen this summer and the centre-back department is one area of the pitch where United keep getting linked with potential new additions.

Having been linked with Ramos and Varane and also big-money bids for Jadon Sancho being reported, they may need to sell to free up some funds this summer and Bailly might be a player sacrificed, particularly if the Ivorian can be used as part of the deal bring in 24-year-old Pau Torres, who was part of the Villarreal side who defeated Manchester United in the Europa League final.
