Manchester City to hold talks in January over signing of superstar striker | Shoot

Considering that much of the Premier League-related talk over the summer focussed on Harry Kane’s proposed move to Manchester City, there was little in the way of a last-minute striker search by City when Kane announced he was staying put.

Having already signed Jack Grealish, Pep Guardiola opted instead to risk starting the season with only Gabriel Jesus as a recognised striker in his squad.

Two months in, however, his decision looks to have been a wise one, as his side are currently just two points off top spot and have had more players score so far than any other side.

Kane, meanwhile, is still in search of his first Premier League goal of the campaign and cut a disgruntled figure when he was substituted during England’s drab 1-1 draw with Hungary at Wembley on Tuesday.

Despite his side’s strong striker-less start to the season, however, it appears that Guardiola is already lining up a sensational move for a forward next summer.

As per The Times, the Citizens will hold talks with the representatives of Erling Braut Haaland in January, about the prospect of a move next summer.

Haaland is quickly establishing himself as one of the world’s best strikers

The report suggests that the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, will hold talks with the Premier League champions about a potential deal.

The Norwegian, who has scored 68 goals in 67 games for current side Borussia Dortmund, has a release clause of £64 million in his current contract, that becomes active next year.

The 21-year-old is one of the most wanted players in world football at present, and was linked with a move to City over the summer before speculation about Kane built up.

The striker’s father, Alf-Inge Haaland, played for City for three years in the early 2000s and the Norway international was born in the UK.

Having scored a total of 129 goals in 175 career matches so far, £64 million represents potentially excellent value for a player who has 11 goals in eight games so far this term.
