BUENOS AIRES, June 19 (Xinhua) — Manchester City-bound forward Julian Alvarez scored twice to lead River Plate to a 5-1 away victory over Union Santa Fe in Argentina’s Primera Division on Sunday.
Braian Romero set the visitors on their way with a 16th-minute strike and Enzo Fernandez made it 2-0 on the hour mark.
Alvarez netted in the 73rd minute before Mariano Peralta reduced the deficit for the hosts with a 79th minute goal against the run of the play.
Agustin Palavecino restored the three-goal advantage with an 87th minute effort before Alvarez completed the rout in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Alvarez, who will join Manchester City next month, has now scored 16 goals and provided six assists in 20 games across all competitions so far this year.
River are now 10th in the 28-team standings with five points from four outings while Union are 21st with four points.
In other Argentine Primera Division fixtures on Sunday, leaders Boca Juniors won 3-1 at Barracas, Atletico Tucuman drew 0-0 at Huracan, Lanus prevailed 1-0 at home to Colon and Banfield claimed a 1-0 victory at Tigre.
