Simon Hughes has been speaking about Mohamed Salah on The Red Agenda podcast and how he’s one of the best players in the world.
Following his transfer to Chelsea, Salah failed to make any sort of impact and was only handed 19 appearances at Stamford Bridge, but his second stint in the Premier League couldn’t be more different, having scored 131 goals in 210 appearances for Liverpool and asserting himself as one of the top players in the league.
Will Liverpool win the league this season?
Yes
No
The impressive numbers have also helped Liverpool to win their first league title for 30 years as well as a Champions League trophy, and his role in those triumphs has ultimately led to Hughes claiming that Salah is outperforming Neymar – and is now one of the best in the world.
Hughes was waxing lyrical over Salah and how good he really is.
“If you look at his numbers in terms of goals, assists, everything else, he’s done better than Neymar has over the last, I think, two or three years. So there’s an argument to say, well, he’s in that league now, isn’t he? You know, he is one of the best players in the world.
“There is an argument he is one of the best players in the world, one of the most influential players that Liverpool rely upon in all sorts of ways.”
TIF Thoughts on Salah…
The Egyptian international is now ranking amongst some of the great Liverpool legends in terms of his goalscoring record following his 100th Premier League goal for the Reds at the weekend, while he now ranks 10th in their all-time scoring charts.
It’s not all perfect for Liverpool and Salah, though, with the winger’s contract set to expire in 2023 – and with Diogo Jota performing so well whenever he’s started in the league for Liverpool, the future of Salah at Liverpool is certainly unclear.
With the Egyptian set to turn 30 next June, the Reds may be unwilling to offer him a lucrative new contract, but it is clear why Hughes believes he has elevated his status during his time at Anfield.
