Liverpool have started the new season strongly and find themselves joint top of the Premier League table, having produced five identical results to Chelsea in the opening weeks.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have conceded just a single goal so far this term, and look likely to mount a serious title challenge after falling short last term.
The Reds look a different side to the Liverpool of last season, with the return of Virgil van Dijk undoubtedly a huge factor in the club’s upturn in form.
Despite his team’s impressive form, it appears that Klopp is still keen on adding more big names to his squad.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Merseyside club are chasing Real Madrid attacking midfielder Marco Asensio.
The report suggests that the 25-year-old is becoming increasingly unhappy at his current club, and could look to move elsewhere as early as January.
The midfielder has played just over an hour of football so far this season, and is yet to start a single game.
Real boss Carlo Ancelotti appears reluctant to give Asensio more of an opportunity, and may therefore be open to the prospect of selling the player.
The Spanish international has scored 38 goals in 198 games for Los Blancos since arriving from Mallorca in 2015.
Klopp, meanwhile, has been keen to bolster his midfield options since the departure of Gini Wijnaldum over the summer, but interest in a number of players never materialised.
While Asensio is a different type of midfielder to Wijnaldum, he would offer a different dynamic to the Reds’ midfield, perhaps more reminiscent of former player Philippe Coutinho.
Liverpool are, however, believed to be facing stiff competition for the signing of Asensio, with Italian duo Juventus and AC Milan also being heavily linked with him.
