Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi final first leg between Arsenal and Liverpool has been postponed after an outbreak of Covid-19 in the Liverpool camp.
The Reds launched an official request for a postponement on Tuesday night, after several players tested positive, and the EFL announced on Wednesday that the game wouldn’t go ahead, with a new date to be confirmed.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were missing Roberto Firmino, Joel Matip and Alisson for their trip to Chelsea on Sunday after the trio tested positive, and the German himself also missed the game.
The club are thought to have returned as many as seven further positive results in the days since, however, leaving them with a depleted squad with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita also all on international duty at the African Cup of Nations.

The two sides will now face the headache of having the fixture rearranged, adding to an already congested fixture list, especially for Liverpool, who remain in the Champions League.
Klopp’s side, who had a league game against Leeds United postponed last month, now look set to play at least 12 games in the next two months, although that figure will rise if they progress past Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
The first of this season’s Carabao Cup semi finals takes place on Wednesday evening, with Chelsea hosting London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.
