Levi Colwill watching centre back situation with interest – Talk Chelsea

Chelsea have got themselves into a rather sticky situation as we frantically head towards January.

The club could end up having four of their current regular defenders being able to agree a pre-contracts to join another clubs in January, midway through the current season.

That is FAR from ideal to say the least, and there are only negative signs surrounding whether Antonio Rudiger will sign a new deal at least, and things haven’t looked much better for Andreas Christensen either right now.

Then you have the situations of Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva, which is also rather up in the air. All four players could leave Chelsea as free agents in the summer.

One player who might be watching on at this situation with a keen interest is Levi Colwill, currently having an excellent season on loan with Huddersfield Town.

The 18-year-old has risen up through the ranks at the Chelsea academy and he is certainly classed as one of the main ‘ones to watch’ at the club right now. He was excellent again for the England U19s in the week and he has so many qualities about his game that already make him good enough to be in the Chelsea squad.

Colwill has matured a lot this season and actually plays in the same position as Rudiger and plays it very well. He has a sweet left foot, physicality, great technique, and a real eye for a pass.

But at such a young age it is his leadership and composure that stands out about him right now and he may well be feeling like he could be an option to come in and replace any of the defenders who might end up leaving Chelsea in the summer.

It will be VERY expensive if Chelsea end up having to replace two or three defenders in the summer, so Colwill could provide a free solution for one of them. It’s an interesting situation with Colwill in such fine form.
