Leeds United: Sam Greenwood drops Instagram message after injury return

Sam Greenwood has taken to Instagram following his return from injury on Tuesday night having missed a number of games through a knee injury.

The Leeds United youngster was forced to undergo surgery in January for the knee issue picked up during their FA Cup clash against West Ham United.

Does Greenwood deserve a chance in the first team?

No

However, he returned to action on Monday night for the U23s as they faced Tottenham Hotspur in north London, which saw the 20-year-old captain the side.

And it did not take him long to get back into the swing of things as he put the Whites ahead from the penalty spot just after the hour mark (via Transfermarkt).

Although Leeds were unable to hang on to their lead, the striker took to Instagram after the game to share his delight at being back in action after a number of weeks on the sidelines.

Reacting to a video of his spot-kick, the striker captioned his Instagram Story: “That was a blow. Nice to be back out there.”

The goal on Monday night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was his eighth of the Premier League 2 campaign having made 15 appearances this season for the U23s side (via Transfermarkt).

Under Marcelo Bielsa, the youngster made a 12-minute cameo in the Premier League against Arsenal, but has not been in the first-team squad since their opening game of the new year.

As he returns to full fitness, we do wonder whether the arrival of Jesse Marsch could see Greenwood gifted an opportunity in the first team.

Leeds are struggling massively for goals without Patrick Bamford in the side, so could the American manager be looking to the likes of Joe Gelhardt and Greenwood for some inspiration?
