Leeds United: Fans slam Pope’s Bamford tweet

A lot of Leeds United fans have slammed a tweet from journalist Adam Pope following an announcement regarding Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s Euros.

Ahead of this summer’s European Championships, it has been confirmed by UEFA that teams will now be able to select 26 players instead of the original 23.

Do you think Bamford deserves an England call-up?

Relaying the news, Pope highlighted the possibility this may now present for the Leeds striker, Patrick Bamford, who was left out of Southgate’s last England squad.

Bamford has had an excellent season back in the top-flight with the 27-year-old scoring 14 goals on his return to the Premier League and with eight assists to his name, too (via Transfermarkt).

However, not all Leeds fans were as optimistic as Pope in his suggestion Bamford may now earn a spot in this summer’s England squad.

Genuinely would not be gutted if none of our players were called up for their countries. They need a summer off. #LUFC

Leeds’ all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

Ollie Watkins was chosen as Southgate’s third-choice striker for the World Cup Qualifiers, however, since those international games were played Bamford has failed to find the back of the net (via Transfermarkt).

Going by the reaction of these Leeds fans it is apparent they are not so sure Bamford has done enough in recent weeks to warrant a spot in the England squad, with some hoping he can have the summer off to benefit Leeds’ interests for next season.
