BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) — Braian Romero came off the bench to score in the 86th minute as 10-man River Plate earned a 1-1 draw at home to Huracan in Argentina’s Primera Division on Sunday.
Nicolas Silva opened the scoring for the visitors by coolly slotting a low shot past onrushing goalkeeper Franco Armani on the hour mark following a counterattack.
The hosts’ night went from bad to worse when Cesar Ibanez was shown a straight red card for an ugly foul on Jose Paradela nine minutes from time.
But River refused to yield and Romero, who replaced Federico Girotti in the 66th minute, nodded home four minutes from time after Fabrizio Angileri’s cross from the left byline.
Marcelo Gallardo’s men are now fourth in the 26-team standings, with seven points from four matches, while Huracan are 13th, with five points.
In other Primera Division fixtures on Sunday, Banfield drew 1-1 at San Lorenzo, Boca Juniors drew 0-0 at Talleres Cordoba and Defensa y Justicia won 3-2 at home to Gimnasia.
