LAFC Drops 2-1 Decision on Road in San Jose

August 8, 2021 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Los Angeles FC News Release

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) fell 2-1 to the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday evening at Pay Pal Park in San Jose.

Two early first half San Jose goals were all the Earthquakes would need to hold on to hand LAFC its second straight defeat. Newly acquired LAFC forward Cristian Arango made his MLS debut, starting and playing 68 minutes, but it was not enough to overcome the Earthquakes. San Jose started the scoring in the 11th minute when Nathan Cardoso deflected a corner kick past LAFC goalkeeper Tomas Romero.

San Jose took a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute on a goal from Javier Lopez, but the Black & Gold were able to cut the lead in half six minutes before halftime when Tristan Blackmon headed a perfectly placed Carlos Vela free kick toward goal that took a deflection off the Earthquakes Jackson Yuell and went into the net.

LAFC returns to action on Sunday, August 15 with a road game against Atlanta United at 1:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, 1110 AM ESPN Radio and 980 AM La Mera, La Mera.
