Kyogo Furuhashi’s pre-Celtic evolution explained as Ange Postecoglou makes prediction of top scorer

Ange Postecolgou insists there’s more to come from Kyogo Furuhashi as he explained how the Japanese star’s style has evolved.

The new signing has five goals in five Celtic appearances so far, four of those coming in his last two domestic outings in wins over Dundee and Hearts respectively.

But Postecoglou expects even more from the former Vissel Kobe man, and explained how his early days as a winger makes him an extra dangerous proposition for Scottish Premiership defenders.

“When he first sort of broke into the J League he was more of a left-winger, and he’s certainly still a threat playing there,” he said. “He did well for us because I think when he plays wide, it’s a different kind of threat he offers to the opposition as they can lose sight of him being in the wide areas.

“But, for us, what is really key is that he is still relishing the task at hand, he’s enjoying his football, he understands that there are challenges ahead of him. But he’s not letting up, he wants to keep improving and I’m sure there’s more to come.”

At the other end, Furuhashi’s fellow new arrival Joe Hart hasn’t had all that much to do, but his experience and presence around the club has still proved beneficial.

In fact, Postecoglou revealed that the whole squad has stepped up in that regard, which has been of particular help t new skipper Callum McGregor.

“Joe’s been great since he’s come in and it’s one of the reasons that we brought him in, that he’s got tons of experience at the highest level,” he told Celtic TV.

“He’s seen it all and having that sort of experienced person coming in helps, but I’ve been really impressed with the whole group in how they’ve stepped up, even the younger ones like David Turnbull, Welshy, Anthony Ralston, Greg Taylor – these guys who’ve been here a while feel that responsibility that they’re not leaving Cal isolated as a leader.

“They’re doing their bit to help him along, and I think Cal’s enjoying that. He knows he’s not on his own. He’s driving the whole group but he knows he’s got willing lieutenants either side of him.”
