Khune signed a two-year deal with Chiefs this week, meaning he will remain at Naturena until his 36th birthday.

And according to Baxter, Khune had to get the contract extension because he’s good to have around at Chiefs whether injured or not.

Baxter further said Khune would NOT have gotten the new deal IF he was no longer influential both on and off the pitch for Chiefs.

“Itu has had an absolutely amazing career so far. I don’t think that is at an end in any way shape or form,” Baxter told the media.

“What he has shown in the last couple of seasons is that when he is injured, he’s still good to have around the place.

“If he is sitting on the bench, he is still good to have around the place. If it is solely for on the training field, where he has an infectious enthusiasm, he’s good to have around the place and I am sure if that was not the case, he probably wouldn’t be getting an extension,” added Baxter.
