Juan Bernat misses out on PSG’s Champions League squad

Le Parisien report this evening that Juan Bernat has not been included in Paris Saint-Germain’s squad for the Champions League knock-out rounds, as was the case for the group stage.

With a 17-man limit in the list of 25 in terms of players who were developed outside of France, one of PSG’s foreign players was to miss out. Having only returned from a long-term injury in October and having suffered another minor issue along with contracting Covid-19, Bernat is the one to have been sidelined.

The decision was also made considering the options the club have in his position, namely Nuno Mendes and Abdou Diallo. Layvin Kurzawa, who has effectively been out of the first team since the start of the season and was heavily linked with a move away this January, has been included, thanks to his status as a homegrown player.

As a result, the 28-year-old Spaniard – who has eight appearances this season – will have to wait until he can return to European action with PSG, having missed out on two years’ worth of continental action.
