Rangers transfer target Joey Veerman has dealt Steven Gerrard a blow in the transfer market by reportedly declaring he’d rather play in Italy.
The 22-year-old Dutch midfielder is a man in demand this summer after an impressive campaign with Heerenveen in the Eredivise, and he’s been repeatedly linked with a move to Ibrox for several months.
The Rangers hierarchy have been credited with a strong interest in the classy playmaker, who scored seven goals and assisted a further ten in the Dutch top-flight last season.
But it doesn’t look like Veerman will be coming to Scottish football any time soon.
The wantaway star has been quoted as telling Dutch outlet Leeuwarder Courant that a move to Italy is his preferred option, with a €5 million offer on the table from Serie A side Hellas Verona.
Gerrard and his Gers squad are gearing up for a crack at the group stages of the Champions League next season after claiming their first Premiership title since 2011, and have already added Fashion Sakala and John Lundstram to their ranks during the close-season.
