Various different reports in Japan claim Kawasaki Frontale winger Kaoru Mitoma, 24, and defensive midfielder teammate Ao Tanaka, 22, have been ‘earmarked’ for a potential transfer to Scotland, with both formally requesting a transfer.

The Daily Record reports that the players have signed up with super-agent Don Nomura, who usually specialises in taking Japanese baseball players to the USA, but has now branched out into football.

Celtic will definitely need a raft of reinforcements this summer, with loan players Mohamed Elyounoussi, Shane Duffy and Diego Laxalt returning to their parent clubs, and with the futures of Odsonne Edouard, Vasilis Barkas Leigh Griffiths, Ryan Christie and Kristoffer Ajer all far from certain.
