Inter predicted lineup vs Sampdoria

Inter are looking to make it three wins from three to kick off their Serie A title defence when they face Sampdoria on Sunday.

Emphatic victories over Genoa and Hellas Verona had Inter feeling good before the international break, but they’ll have to contend with some significant absences to match those results here.

Here’s how Simone Inzaghi could set up.

Samir Handanovic

Samir Handanovic (GK) – Could this be Handanovic’s final season at Inter? If so, he’ll want to make sure he’s going out with a bang.

Milan Skriniar (CB) – A core part of the Inter setup, Skriniar is one of the first names on the team sheet and has been for a good few years now.

Alessandro Bastoni (CB) – Still only 22, Bastoni was one of Inter’s top performers last season and he’ll be hoping to take his form to the next level this year.

Stefan de Vrij (CB) – One of the most dependable options in the squad, De Vrij completes Inter’s terrifying three-man back line.

Denzel Dumfries (RM) – It’s a shoot-out between Dumfries and Matteo Darmian for this wing-back role, but expect the Dutchman to make it his own soon.

Nicolo Barella (CM) – One of the stars of Italy’s run to Euro 2020 glory, all eyes are on Barella as he looks to prove himself as one of the game’s best midfielders.

Hakan Calhanoglu (CM) – It’s been a solid start to life on this side of Milan for Calhanoglu, who has a goal and an assist from his first two matches.

Marcelo Brozovic (CM) – Anchoring the midfield will be Brozovic, whose legs could be a little tired after he played three lots of 90 minutes during the international break.

Ivan Perisic (LM) – Perisic’s international break was slightly less hectic than Brozovic, so he should have enough in the tank to start here too.

Edin Dzeko (ST) – Dzeko has brushed off an injury scare in time to lead the line, but he might have a lot of work to do because of a lack of help around him.

Stefano Sensi (ST) – Just as we saw in the opening game of the season, Sensi could be drafted in as an emergency shadow striker, with both Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa in need of a rest following late returns from international duty.
