Inter Milan could reportedly make a move to sign Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga if they fail to land Manuel Akanji, with Arsenal interested in the Borussia Dortmund centre-back as well.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian giants have drawn up a list of options if a move for Akanji fails to materialise, with Tottenham talent Tanganga on Inter’s list of potential signings as the north London side look to offload the 23-year-old centre-back.

Tanganga has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan, however, talks have died down in recent weeks, and Inter could now look to sign the Tottenham academy graduate should they miss out on Akanji, a player Arsenal are reportedly interested in as Dortmund look to sell the Swiss international for €20m (£25m).

With Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma also reportedly interested in Tanganga, Italian interest is high in the Tottenham defender, who has failed to impress Antonio Conte since the former Inter manager’s return to the Premier League, and Inter could now end up signing the youngster ahead of their Serie A rivals.

Indeed, Tanganga has impressed when called upon by Tottenham, with the English defender versatile enough to play at both centre-back and right-back, and following the success of Fikayo Tomori at Milan, there could be extra incentive for Inter to move for the north London star.

The former Chelsea defender was in a similar situation to Tanganga before his move to Milan in January 2021, and since then, Tomoroi has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in Serie A and a title winner with the Rossoneri, and this story could inspire the Tottenham outcast to sign for Inter.

Tanganga will be hopeful of signing for Inter in the coming days

Tanganga has been linked with a move away from Tottenham for the majority of the window, yet little progress has happened in recent weeks that would lead to the defender actually leaving England, yet this update from Italy could revive hope that the talented centre-back could leave north London, and for the player, he will now be hopeful of signing for Inter.

After all, as per the report, the Nerazzurri are not keen on signing Akanji for the price tag Dortmund are looking for, and for Tanganga, this could mean being subject to a move from Inter, which could take the defender’s career to the next level if he is to move to the San Siro this summer.
