Houston Dynamo FC Re-Sign Darwin Quintero

December 21, 2021 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON – Houston Dynamo FC re-signed forward Darwin Quintero through the 2022 season with an option for 2023, the Club announced today. Targeted Allocation Money was utilized for the transaction and Quintero will return for his third season with the Dynamo in 2022.

“Darwin is a game changer, he brings an offensive quality that can win games,” Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad said. “Darwin expressed his desire to remain in Houston and that is a tribute to the city, the fans and the strong support staff at the club. We are excited to see his continued contributions.”

Quintero joined the Dynamo in a trade with Minnesota United FC for Allocation Money on Nov. 13, 2019. The forward was a Designated Player for the Dynamo in 2020 and 2021. He scored 7 goals and added 10 assists in his first season with the Club, tying for the league lead in assists that year.

“I am excited to return to Houston and tackle a big year for the team in 2022,” Quintero said. “Our goals are very clear and I want to play a role in helping the team get to that next level.”

Quintero scored three goals and finished with two assists last season across 1,010 minutes. The 34-year-old appeared in 20 games and led the team in chances created with 42. He also earned MLSSoccer.com Team of the Week honors after he scored a brilliant goal and tallied an assist in Houston’s 2-1 victory over Seattle Sounders FC on Oct. 16. His goal against Seattle was nominated for AT&T Goal of the Year by MLS.

The Tumaco, Colombia native enters his fifth MLS season after spending two seasons with Minnesota United FC from 2018-2019. The forward made the move to MLS after playing for nearly a decade in Mexico with Club Santos Laguna and Club América. Quintero won five trophies during his stint in Mexico and finished as the league’s top goal scorer in the 2013 LigaMX Apertura season and the 2012-13 Concacaf Champions League tournament.

Quintero received his Green Card in 2019 and will not occupy an International slot on the Dynamo roster. With this signing, the Dynamo now have 25 players under contract ahead of the 2022 season.
