Hoddle criticises Tottenham Hotspur players as they had the ‘wrong attitude’ against Vitesse

Tottenham" 24956 target="_blank">Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has questioned the “attitude” of his former club’s players after their “poor” defeat to Vitesse in the Europa Conference League.

Nuno Espirito Santo named a makeshift team against Vitesse. He made eleven changes from their weekend victory over Newcastle" 24965 target="_blank">Newcastle United.

Spurs underperformed against their Dutch opponents as they were beaten 1-0. Maximilian Wittek scored the winning goal for his side with just over ten minutes to go.

Little sympathy for p*ss-poor Spurs but plenty for Scarlett

Tottenham have four points from their three group games in the Europa Conference League.

As reported by the Mirror, Hoddle said that Spurs’ players have to “look at themselves in the mirror” after their loss to Vitesse:

“It’s a very, very poor performance. The attitude was wrong – they have to look at themselves in the mirror. There are Spurs fans who have travelled across here, they deserve better.

“Also there was a lack of ability. Sometimes you can say there was no desire or mental approach to the game that’s one thing that wasn’t there. But their abilities were poor today, there was no creativity.

“Nobody really wanted to run the game out there or stamp their authority on the game, and say to Nuno, ‘I am your man, I can get in your first team’.

“But also go and win this game, an important game for them. They weren’t up for that test. I am very, very disappointed.”

Santo said after the game that the Conference League provides “tough moments”:

“It was a tough match against a good team. There were some moments where we did well but we learned some details.

“In attack we could do more and we should finish the actions. We had good situations to be better.

“The goal came from a foul which I think can be discussed, but there should be more cover at the edge of the box.

“The Europa Conference League is like this, there are always tough moments. We have got two home games which I truly believe can help us solve the group.

“We have players who work hard and deserves matches. The Conference League is a chance for them to get minutes.”
