Brentford have announced that Henrik Dalsgaard, Luke Daniels and Emiliano Marcondes will all depart the clubs at the end of their contracts on 30 June 2021.

Dalsgaard will depart for FC Midtjylland on a free transfer whereas Daniels and Marcondes’ futures remain unclear at present.

Speaking on the decision to release Dalsgaard, Daniels and Marcondes, Brentford Co-Director of Football – Phil Giles said: “On behalf of everyone at Brentford, I’d like to thank Luke, Henrik and Emiliano for all their contributions over the years.”

Giles also took the opportunity to praise all three players for their contributions towards promotion to the Premier League via 2020-21 Championship Play-Offs, adding: “It’s fair to say that our promotion to the Premier League would’ve been that much more difficult without them, and they leave with our best wishes for their future careers.”

Dalsgaard’s departure comes after scoring seven goals in 162 appearances for the Bees in all competitions since arriving at Brentford in summer 2017, whilst becoming the highest capped international player whilst contracted to the club after making 22 appearances for Denmark across all competitions.

Manager, Thomas Frank has also paid tribute to Dalsgaard, praising the Danish defender for being one of the team’s ‘top players and leaders’ who has driven the standards in the squad throughout his time at the club on and off the pitch.

Daniels meanwhile also departs after four seasons at the Bees like Dalsgaard, having been named in all but four matchday squads during his time at Griffin Park and Brentford Community Stadium whilst making 36 appearances in total across all competitions.

Although Daniels has failed to be Brentford’s first choice goalkeeper throughout his time at the club, Frank praised the 33 year-old for delivering a ‘great job’ for the club throughout the last four seasons and ‘driving’ the team’s quality to higher levels with his extensive EFL experience.

On Daniels’ loyalty as second choice goalkeeper, Frank commented: “Luke has performed very well for us and has played an important role as our second goalkeeper. He has helped push standards and performances up from those around him.”

Frank also complimented Daniels by stating that whichever club signs the ex Scunthorpe United goalie next will be “getting an excellent goalkeeper who will get a chance to show everyone his qualities.”

Marcondes meanwhile arrived from FC Nordsjaelland in January 2018 and proved to be an influential player, despite only scoring seven goals in 97 appearances across all competitions of which his last goal provided Brentford with a 2-0 win over Swansea at Wembley to clinch promotion and Man of the Match Award.

Reflecting on Marcondes’ unluckiness with injuries, Frank admitted that the Dane ‘had been unlucky’ yet ultimately managed to play a big role in the club’s success, even conducting extra work post training sessions with motivation from the coaching staff which had a positive impact on the squad.

Brentford have also confirmed that Winston Reid has returned to West Ham upon the conclusion of his loan spell in which he made 11 appearances.

Ellery Balcombe, Halil Dervişoğlu, Patrik Gunnarsson, Julian Jeanvier, Dominic Thompson and Joel Valencia have all returned to the club, having spent the season out on loan across Europe or at Doncaster and Swindon in Balcombe and Thompson’s cases.

Brentford will now prepare for their upcoming campaign in the 2021-22 Premier League, with Ivan Toney, Marcus Forss and Bryan Mbeumo amongst players set to remain at the club.
