Harry Redknapp says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be ‘under severe pressure’ as he praises ex-Manchester United manager David Moyes for turning around ‘massive club’ West Ham

Harry Redknapp believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be ‘under severe pressure’ and is unsure ‘how much longer he can go on for’ at Manchester United.

The Red Devils slumped to yet another defeat on Saturday, their fourth in the Premier League already this season, as they were soundly beaten 2-0 by rivals Manchester City.

Solskjaer may be ‘under severe pressure’ at Manchester United

Since scraping past high-flying West Ham United on September 19 in London, the Red Devils have collected just four points.

Defeats to Aston Villa, Leicester City, Liverpool and then City have left the club languishing in sixth position, just above Brighton and Wolves.

Having recruited Jadon Sancho, Rafael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, Solskjaer will be all too aware of the need to drastically amend their form or else.

Redknapp argued that if Villa can get rid of fan favourite Dean Smith for collecting just seven points fewer than United, then the Norwegian cannot be safe at Old Trafford.

“He’s got to be under severe pressure,” Redknapp told Breakfast. “They’ve spent big, they’ve brought players in and he’s had the backing of the board.

“Listen, if Dean Smith and people like that can lose their job then certainly Ole can. He’s at a club there where they should be doing a lot better.

“Their performances have been poor and, I’ve never met him, but I like him – he looks like a lovely guy. Michael Carrick played for me who works alongside him, another great guy.

“I don’t know how much longer he can go for, he’s got to be under severe pressure.”

Moyes found it tough at United

While United are seriously struggling, former boss David Moyes is basking in the glory of his success at West Ham United.

The Scot, who is in his second spell with the Hammers, was sacked by United after just 10 months in charge back in 2014 and has since re-established himself as one of the most tactically astute coaches in the game.

For Redknapp, who led the East End side to their best ever finish of fifth in 2001, the sight of Moyes succeeding after years of humiliation at his beloved club is a joy to behold.

“I used to laugh when people used to say, ‘West Ham are not a big club,’” Redknapp said on Breakfast.

“They’re a massive club, a big club, great support and it is fantastic to see them doing so well. David has just done a great job there.

“He knows what he is doing, it’s not rocket science is it? We all get carried away with so much nonsense now and so much jargon and it’s so some of these young coaches have invented a new game.

“He just comes in and gets on with it, he’s brought in good players in the right positions, they work hard and they know what they’re about.

“He works hard on the training pitch and getting great results and long may it continue.”
