New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has become the jack of all trades at the club, he is literally doing it all, at least for this summer anyway.
Boehly was officially confirmed as the new Chelsea chairman this week, a role that he always seemingly had in his head that he would be doing once he and his consortium had become the new owners of the club.
But not only that, in the same announcement it was confirmed that Boehly will also be the interim sporting director at the club, with Marina Granovskaia leaving. This is great, and I love his passion and hard work for it already, that is admirable. However, a new director of football should be as an important priority this summer as anything else.
Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel, and Boehly himself, all need a football minded expert with experience to come in and work alongside the recruitment team, the scouts, and the manager, to make sure that we continue to make the right footballing decisions in the transfer market, and in-house with contracts and academy players. This is hugely important.
With respect to Tuchel, he is a head coach first and foremost and he will not have the time to go around scouting new talents. Boehly, with respect, is a very smart businessman and he will be amazing for this club, but he doesn’t have ANY experience in football at all.
I genuinely believe a new sporting director will be bought in as well because as I just said, Boehly is a very smart man and he knows that the club will need a new DOF sooner rather than later.
