Rangers winger Ryan Kent is one of the first targets for new Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard ahead of the January transfer window.

That’s according to The Metro, who claim that Gerrard is already eyeing a raid on Rangers just days after leaving Ibrox.

Gerrard decided to leave Rangers for a move to Aston Villa on Thursday, replacing Dean Smith at Villa Park.

Rangers have been rocked and now need to find a replacement, so the last thing they need are rumours about their players.

Gerrard being linked with Rangers players was always going to happen though, with Kent now seemingly the first.

Would Kent leaving Rangers for Villa make sense?

Kent joined Rangers in Gerrard’s first summer at Ibrox, arriving on loan from Liverpool.

Rangers then splashed £7.5million to sign Kent permanently, and Gerrard absolutely loves the winger.

Kent now has 28 goals and 33 assists in 139 games under Gerrard, and the now-Villa boss branded Kent a ‘top player’ at Rangers.

You can understand why Gerrard would want Kent again, but the Villa side may need some tweaking.

If Gerrard takes his 4-3-3 setup to Villa, Emi Buendia may be needed on the flanks alongside Leon Bailey.

Ollie Watkins and Anwar El Ghazi can also play on the left flank, so Kent maybe shouldn’t be a priority – even if Gerrard loves the Rangers star.
