BUENOS AIRES, June 11 (Xinhua) — Former Juventus and Uruguay international defender Paolo Montero has reached an agreement to take charge of Argentine top-flight club San Lorenzo.

The 49-year-old struck a verbal agreement with San Lorenzo sporting director Mauro Cetto and is expected to travel to Buenos Aires early next week to officially begin his tenure as head coach.

“Mauro contacted me last week to tell me that he wanted me as manager. Yesterday he called to tell me that everything was confirmed,” Montero told radio station Sport 890 on Friday. “We spoke again today to discuss when I’ll begin. I’m very happy.”

Montero represented San Lorenzo as a player in the 2005-06 season after ending a 13-year spell in Italy with Juventus and Atalanta.

His managerial career has included stints with Boca Juniors, Colon, Rosario Central and Sambenedettese.
