Leeds United’s Daniel James was in high spirits during Wales training camp as the gets set for a pretty big game tonight.
It’s fair to say that this season hasn’t exactly been the best for James following his £25m move in the summer.
With just four goals and four assists in all competitions, he hasn’t exactly lived up to his price tag in a season that has threatened to be derailed for Leeds United as they have circled dangerously close to the relegation zone and aren’t exactly clear of danger right now either.
But now he is on Wales duty and can take his mind off the relegation battle for a few days, because he and the rest of Rob Page’s men have bigger fish to fry as they get set for a World Cup qualifying semi-final against Austria in Cardiff.
But even with such high-stakes on the line, that doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy himself, and that’s exactly what he did during their recent training session as footage from the Welsh FA caught him nutmegging Swindon Town midfielder Jonny Williams during a keep-ball drill:
TIF Thoughts on footage of Leeds United’s Daniel James in training for Wales…
Has Dan James been worth the money for Leeds?
Yes
No
Hopefully the 24-year-old will still be in a smiling mood once the game is going on, because a morale boost from James if he and the Wales team can play well could well benefit the Leeds side when he comes back from international duty.
If he manages to put in a good performance, then that form could well translate itself into some good form for Jesse March’s side.
And with safety in the Premier League far from a certainty, a couple of goals and assists from James between now and the end of the season could go a long way to helping Leeds secure their place in the Premier League for next season.
