There’s some football players who arrive at a new club and don’t bother learning anything about the team they just signed for.
Fashion Sakala is not one of those players. He’s revealed he has been studying old games to learn about the atmosphere at Ibrox and looking into pictures and videos of what the club’s training ground is like.
But despite all his research, the Rangers frontman has still been left in a bit of shock at the size of both Ibrox and the training centre in Auchenhowie.
The Zambia star joined up with Steven Gerrard’s side on Thursday after quarantining for 10 days and although the game against Arsenal might come too soon, he’s excited to experience fans back in the stadium.
And he admits he’s been keeping tabs on everything to do with the club since agreeing to sign and reckons that this is truly the start of his footballing journey.
He told RangersTV: “I’m very excited. This is what I’m looking forward to. It’s always nice to have fans in the stadium. Football is for the fans.
“It’s always nice to play with fans and I’ve watched a couple of games before Covid and there was a great atmosphere here with the fans.
“It’s amazing. This club is loved and it’s a club for the people so I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans and the atmosphere.
“It’s amazing to be here. It’s very nice to be here. I tried to take all the pictures and I watched the games but it’s not the same. What we see on TV is different to in person, it’s massive.
“I feel like it’s time to start playing football now. I’m very happy to make this step to be here and play every week in such a beautiful stadium with a great history.”
Sakala trained on his own on Thursday before joining in with the group on Friday but he revealed he’s already been welcomed by his team-mates who have been texting him during his time in quarantine.
And he admitted he was shocked by the facilities on offer to him at the training ground as he looked forward to developing as a player.

When asked about the training ground he replied: “Wow.
“I tried to check everything before I came here but on TV it’s not the same. What I’ve seen is more than my imagination. It’s massive.
“I feel like now I have started football. I’m very excited and happy. I’m very impressed. When I went to the training centre, the most important thing was the people I found there.
“Everyone was smiling so it was a great message for me to think I’m part of this club.
“I was doing it alone today but I was thinking about tomorrow and meeting the whole group here. That’s what I’m looking forward to.
“It’ll be nice to meet them in person. When I came here, players were texting me when I was at the hotel, sending messages to me and that was nice.
“People from the club were talking to me every day and I wasn’t bored at all. Meeting them in person tomorrow will be very nice and I’m looking forward to it.”
