FORMER Celtic star Kris Commons has blasted Ryan Porteous over his latest red card in the defeat to Rangers.
The Hibees were leading through an early Kevin Nisbet header before being reduced to ten-men after the defender was handed his marching orders.
The Premiership champions turned the game on its head in the second-half thanks to goals from Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard insisted post-match that the ‘wild’ tackle on Joe Aribo was a potential leg breaker.
And Commons – who also turned out for Hibs – has hit out as he slammed the ‘ridiculous challenge’ and ‘naivety’ of the Hibs stopper.
Writing in his Daily Mail column, he said: “So what to make of Ryan Porteous after his latest red card against Rangers?
“He went flying in on Borna Barisic in a game two years ago and was rightly dismissed.
“Yesterday, it was Joe Aribo who was on the receiving end of another ridiculous challenge from the young Hibs centre-half.
“I don’t actually think there was much contact.
“But it was reckless from Porteous the way he lunged in over the top of the ball.
“When you’re 1-0 up away from home at Ibrox, you’re looking for your team to show a bit of composure and maturity.
“But the naivety of Porteous cost his team any chance of victory.
“It’s not the first time we’ve seen this sort of rash stupidity from him.
“He gave the referee a decision to make.
“And when you’ve carved out a reputation for yourself as a bit of a hothead, there’s only one way that’s going to end.
“Not so much hard man as hatchet man.”
WILD THING Rangers boss Steven Gerrard slams ‘wild, leg-breaking’ Ryan Porteous tackle
Meanwhile, Jack Ross has refused to come down hard on his young defender after his dismissal.
The Easter Road boss understands why ref Nick Walsh sent off the stopper after just 30 minutes at Ibrox.
But Ross insists there will be enough people slating his centre-back without him also having a go.

The Hibs gaffer said: “As it happened I didn’t even think it was a foul, but that was from my view on the touchline.
“I then watched it and for the first couple of angles I had the same opinion, but it’s from the angle behind the goal that it doesn’t look great.
“What I don’t quite understand is that the match official’s view must be the same, he isn’t watching it from behind the goals.
“That said, Ryan gives him a decision to make.
“I don’t necessarily agree with the decision, but I can understand why it’s given.”
