Euro Leagues Wrap: Chelsea & Napoli Slip Off Top, PSG Draw Again

We’ve got new leaders in England and Italy after Chelsea and Napoli slipped up while Bayern Munich downed Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker and Paris Saint-Germain stumbled in France again.

English Premier League

Champions Manchester City moved into top spot as Chelsea were beaten 3-2 by fourth-placed West Ham United on Saturday, with Edouard Mendy having a nightmare shift for the Blues. Arthur Masuaku came up with a fortunate cross-cum-shot for the winner.

City and Liverpool capitalised on Chelsea’s slip-up. Pep Guardiola’s side eased past Watford 3-1, with a double from Bernardo Silva who has found form lately. Liverpool needed a last-gasp winner from Divock Origi to get past Wolverhampton 1-0. Tottenham moved up to fifth with a 3-0 home win over Norwich City, moving past Arsenal who play Everton on Monday.

Italian Serie A

Napoli, like Chelsea, let slip their lead at the top of the table in Italy, going down 3-2 to Atalanta having led 2-1. The result means Napoli have managed only five points from their past five games.

AC Milan moved above them at the summit, claiming a routine 2-0 home win over Salernitana while Inter Milan continued their good form and climb with a 3-0 victory at AS Roma, where they netted all three goals in the first half. Atalanta’s victory over Napoli continued their fine form with a fifth consecutive victory, while Juventus moved into the top five for the first time with a 2-0 triumph over Genoa.

German Bundesliga

Bayern Munich came from behind in Der Klassiker to open up a four-point buffer at the top of the table with a 3-2 victory atBorussia Dortmund. Julian Brandt opened the scoring early but Bayern hit back with first-half goals from Robert Lewandowski and Kingsley Coman. Erling Haaland shook off an injury concern to level it up early in the second half but Robert Lewandowski scored a 78th-minute winner from the spot.

Patrik Schick scored four goals as Bayer Leverkusen stay in the title race after hammering bottom club Greuther Furth 7-1. Fourth-placed Freiburg snapped their three-game losing run with a stunning 6-0 victory at Moenchengladbach on Sunday. RB Leipzig lost their third straight game, going down 2-1 to Union Berlin, sinking to 11th.

Spanish La Liga

Real Madrid suddenly opened up an eight-point advantage with a 2-0 win at Real Sociedad after two goals early in the second half from Vinicius Junior and Luka Jovic. Real have seven wins from nine away games in La Liga this term, claiming six successive victories in the process.

Despite coming off two games without a win, Sevilla moved up to second spot after a 1-0 home victory over Villarreal, capitalising on Sociedad’s loss along with champions Atletico Madrid getting beaten 2-1 at home by Mallorca. Matheus Cunha had put Atleti ahead in the 68th minute but Mallorca netted twice in the final 10 minutes for a surprise win. Juanmi scored in the 79th minute as Real Betis won 1-0 at Barcelona who slipped into seventh.

French Ligue 1

Runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain drew for the second game in a row, needing Georginio Wijnaldum’s 90th minute equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw at fifth-placed Lens. Martin Terrier netted a hat-trick as second-placed Rennes closed within 11 points with a 5-0 victory at Saint-Etienne.

Marseille were beaten by Brest 2-1, while Nice went down 3-0 to Strasbourg. Champions Lille won 2-1 over Troyes to move up to 11th and Monaco continued their climb with a 4-0 victory over Metz to sit seventh.
