Edouard let down Crystal Palace vs Bees

Crystal Palace put in a disappointing shift after failing to take all three points from Brentford today, with an uninspiring performance gifting the Bees their first point in five games.

Despite having more possession, more shots on target and a better pass accuracy throughout the game, Patrick Vieira’s side couldn’t muster the creativity needed to score during the 94 minutes of play, and in turn missed the opportunity to climb further in the Premier League and close the gap on the top half of the table, with Jordan Ayew missing perhaps their best opportunity on the day.

Take nothing away from Brentford, though. They created more big chances and won more tackles, interceptions and duels against Palace, proving they were in the game to put up a fight against their fellow London club, and ultimately won a much-needed point.

In terms of Palace, it is fair to say their creativity cost them when you look at Odsonne Edouard’s lack of involvement and performance in the game until he was finally substituted in the 72nd minute by Vieira to make way for a fresh attacking threat in Jean-Philippe Mateta.

According to SofaScore, Edouard had the third-lowest rating in the visitors’ side (6.6), which reflects clearly in his overall statistics in the game. The 24-year-old failed to complete any of his five dribbles, offered no shots on goal and lost 77% of his duels in total.

The striker, who was hailed as “magnificent” by his former Celtic manager Neil Lennon, was a passenger today and let Vieira down. Considering that he has thrived throughout the season so far with nine goals and five assists in all competitions, he would have been relied upon to find an opportunity to bag his 10th goal and help the team in taking all three points from west London this afternoon.

Will Crystal Palace finish in the top half?

Yes

No

No

Vieira will now need to re-evaluate and consider his next steps, as Palace have now failed to win any of their last five games, drawing three and losing two, and the Eagles manager will be hoping not to squander the opportunity of a top-half finish in his first season in charge. He will surely demand more from Edouard in forthcoming matches after this below-par display.
