Dundee United match against Aberdeen to be used as covid passport test event

Dundee United bosses have confirmed that next weekend’s crunch match with Aberdeen will be used as a covid passport test event.

They said the game on Saturday, November 20 will be seen as ‘an opportunity to test’ the club’s operational processes.

However, they were quick to reassure fans that no-one will be refused entry for failing to provide proof of their vaccination status.

But they hope the match will ultimately help make it safe, quick, and easy for supporters for upcoming home fixtures that will require covid passports to be in use.

On game day, stewards will accept both paper and digital versions of supporters’ vaccination status.

The vaccine passport app will be needed for football matches with crowds more than 10,000

Any fans who have a covid passport app are asked to arrive with it open on their device to assist stewards who will be making the visual checks at the turnstiles.

Explaining the decision to host the test event, the club reminded fans of the current government guidance.

The statement said: “Under the regulations provided by the Scottish Government, all Scottish football clubs that are hosting games where the attendance is greater than 10,000 are legally required to implement a spot-check system to ensure supporters have proof of double vaccination or an exemption prior to entry.

“Please note that for most of our matches where attendance is under 10,000 these government regulations will not apply and there will be no requirement for fans to prove vaccination status to attend.”

They club will issue further guidance ahead of the Celtic home match scheduled for Sunday 5 December when a crowd of over 10,000 is expected.
