Dortmund in ‘middle of a ketchup trap’ as they fear Man Utd wait

Borussia Dortmund need to sell before they can buy this summer and are nervous they could have to wait for Man Utd to make a move for Jadon Sancho, according to reports.

Sancho is one of England’s hottest young talents and is at the centre of speculation for the second successive summer.

The 21-year-old England international was widely expected to move to Man Utd in 2020 and Old Trafford could yet be his destination.

According to recent reports on the continent, Dortmund would be willing to accept a fee of £82m – a staggering £74m more than they paid Manchester City four years ago, while Chelsea could rival the Red Devils for Sancho’s signature.

Man Utd, meanwhile, have reportedly drawn up a plan to make Sancho their ‘mega-signing’ this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and football director John Murtough met last Thursday after the Europa League final defeat to Villarreal, with a potential move for Sancho said to be most eagerly discussed.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc revealed at the beginning of May that the German club have a “gentlemen’s agreement” with the 21-year-old, while no such deal exists with in-demand Erling Haaland.

And with Dortmund willing to sell this summer, a report in Sport Bild (via Sport Witness) claims that the Bundesliga giants find themselves in the ‘middle of a ketchup trap’.

BVB can ‘only go shopping when players have been sold’ meaning they are reliant on Man Utd, and other clubs interested in buying any of their players, to do their business quickly.

Sport Bild confirm Man Utd are ‘interested’ in Sancho but Dortmund fear that the Red Devils are a club ‘that likes to wait a long time’.

That could mean that any transfer business Dortmund want to get done could have to wait until Man Utd make an acceptable offer for Sancho.

Meanwhile, Paul Scholes recently urged Solskjaer to go out and get either Sancho or Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

Scholes told the Webby & O’Neill show: “I think we need someone who is a creative midfield player. Grealish or Sancho, one of them would be ideal.

“It would be great to have a left-footed centre back but I don’t think it’s needed, I don’t think we are desperate for that. I would like to see a centre-half come in next to [Harry] Maguire. I think [Victor] Lindelof is doing alright, I just think alright isn’t good enough to win a league.

“Marquinhos from PSG, I think he’s be a brilliant centre-half next to Maguire but again you’re talking about a lot of money.”
