ZAGREB, 29 January 2022 – Dinamo Zagreb have turned down an offer for Mislav Oršić from English Premier League side Burnley FC, the club confirmed on Saturday.
Dinamo Zagreb and Burnley FC were close to agreeing a deal with the English media reporting during the week that a £7 million deal was almost complete. But on Saturday, the Croatian champions confirmed that the 29-year-old Croatian international will be staying in Zagreb.
“In recent days, there has been great interest from the public and fans on the possible transfer of Mislav Oršić to the English club Burnley. GNK Dinamo informs the public that the decision has been made that Mislav Oršić will remain a Dinamo player and we are looking forward that he will, together with his teammates, participate in the continuation of the season together and contribute to achieving the goal of winning a new Croatian title,” the club said in a statement.
The club shared the news this morning by sharing a video.
Burnley have been on the lookout for an attacking player after they sold New Zealand striker Chris Wood to Newcastle this month.
Burnley are currently bottom of the English Premier League with just 12 points after 18 games. They have two games in hand ahead of Norwich who are second to last with 14 points.
Oršić caught the eye of English clubs after impressive performances against Tottenham, when he scored a hat-trick and West Ham in the UEFA Europa League. There were also rumours Arsenal had shown some interest.
Oršić recently played his 100th game for Dinamo Zagreb. He made his debut for Croatia in 2019 and has played 14 games for his country, scoring once. That goal came at Euro 2020 against Spain.
