ZAGREB, 4 August 2021 – Dinamo Zagreb and Legia Warsaw have drawn in the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round at Zagreb’s Maksimir stadium on Wednesday night.

Croatian International Bruno Petković gave Dinamo Zagreb a 1-0 lead in front of around 5,000 fans with a powerful second half header, but ten minutes from time the visitors would level.

Dinamo nearly opened the scoring in the opening minute of the match when Petković stole the ball but instead of shooting he looked to pass.

Legia Warsaw had a couple half chances of their own early on before Dinamo would find the back of the net in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, Luka Ivanušec’s rebounded goal was disallowed for offside.

Petković, who looked sharp from the start, was causing the Legia defence all sorts of problems and in the 59th minute he would give Dinamo a deserved lead when he meet a cross with from Ivanušec with a thunderous header.

Dinamo created a good chance in the 80th minute to double their lead but when the ball fell to a free Kristijan Jakić inside the box he decided against shooting first time.

Dinamo would rue the chance as a minute later Legia Warsaw would find an equaliser when Ernest Muci would gather the ball 25 yards out and fire into the bottom corner past Dominik Livaković to make it 1-1.

Dinamo now head to Poland for the return leg next week.
