BUENOS AIRES, March 5 (Xinhua) — Paulo Diaz scored a first-half goal as River Plate rose to the top of Argentina’s Primera Division Group A standings on Saturday with a 1-0 victory at San Lorenzo.
Diaz struck in the 37th minute with a towering header into the top left corner following Ezequiel Barco’s delivery from a corner.
The result leaves River with 10 points from five matches, ahead of Union Santa Fe and Sarmiento on goal difference. San Lorenzo is 12th in the 14-team group.
Earlier, a first-half goal from Gabriel Hauche fired Racing Club to a 1-0 home win over Talleres Cordoba.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 32nd minute after Enzo Diaz was shown a straight red card for an ugly challenge on Facundo Mura.
In Saturday’s only other Primera Division fixture, Sarmiento won 1-0 at Patronato courtesy of an early strike from Jonathan Torres.
