Crystal Palace are ready to hijack Nottingham Forest’s move for Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.
What’s the word?
That’s according to The Sun, who note that Patrick Vieira is keen to bring extra midfield reinforcements to Selhurst Park following the departure of loanee Conor Gallagher.
Both Forest and Southampton are also said to be keen on the 22-year-old.
Having already secured signings for Malcolm Ebiowei and Cheick Doucoure, the French manager looks to further bolster his squad with this young talent who is valued at around £20m.
He could be their next Gallagher
After attracting one highly-rated English youngster to Selhurst Park, perhaps Patrick Vieira could repeat the trick by signing this England U21 international permanently.
Gibbs-White enjoyed an outstanding season out on loan to Championship side Sheffield United. In his 35 league appearances, the midfielder bagged 11 goals and nine assists as his side finished in a playoff spot.
This culminated in his average SofaScore rating of 7.16, which will have certainly had a hand in seeing him labelled a “sensational player” by Blades’ favourite Billy Sharp.
He continued: “Morgan runs all day, he’s got tricks in abundance. Scores a lot of goals and assists as well. Like I say, it’s been a big team effort this season.”
It is this kind of form that could lead to Palace splashing the cash on him, as he certainly fits the Conor Gallagher mould.
Last season, the Chelsea loanee managed eight goals and three assists in the Premier League. Whilst impressive, given the season that the Wolves loanee has just enjoyed, it is not impossible to think that Gibbs-White could perform similarly for Palace next term.
The chances would be further increased due to the introduction of Cheick Doucoure, who the club had agreed terms with nearly five days ago.
To have a defensive powerhouse like him just behind would give added freedom and confidence to get forward and grab goals and assists, knowing that the counterattack will be quashed by him.
Vieira should jump at the chance to sign the £9.9m-rated starlet, as he certainly has all the ability to fill the vacancy left by ex-loanee Gallagher.
