BUENOS AIRES, July 3 (Xinhua) — Franco Cristaldo scored two second-half goals as Huracan secured a 3-2 home win over 10-man River Plate in Argentina’s Primera Division on Sunday.
River suffered a major blow at the half-hour mark when Jonatan Maidana was shown a straight red card for a violent challenge on Santiago Hezze.
Jonathan Galvan opened the scoring for Huracan with a 37th-minute strike and Cristaldo doubled the lead just after the hour mark after combining with Gabriel Gudino.
Leandro Gonzalez reduced the deficit with a 69th-minute header following a David Martinez pass. But the hosts restored their two-goal advantage when Cristaldo converted from the penalty spot after Matias Coccaro was brought down by Gonzalez.
Manchester City-bound forward Julian Alvarez gave River a glimmer of hope by heading home in stoppage time following a Jose Paradela corner. However, Huracan held firm in the final minutes to register their third win of the season.
In other Primera Division matches on Sunday, Racing Club drew 1-1 at Sarmiento, Barracas Central won 2-1 at home to San Lorenzo and Union routed Lanus 3-0 in Santa Fe.
