Zamalek’s interim board has announced a contract extension of French coach Patrice Carteron for three more seasons in a step aimed to preserve the team’s stability after the 51-year-old tactician helped the team win their first Egyptian Premier League title since 2015 and 13th overall.
“The interim board that is managing the club is working to preserve the team’s stability and continue winning trophies by extending the stay of the French coach Carteron.” Zamalek’s management said in a statement on Friday.
“Our target in the coming season is to win the African Champions League title as well as reaching the FIFA Club World Cup alongside keeping the Egyptian Premier League title.” The statement added.
Carteron returned to lead the White Knights last March just a few months after his shock departure to lead Saudi Arabia’s Al-Taawon.
He became Zamalek’s fan favourite after making a fine impact with the Whites, helping the team win the 2020-21 Egyptian Premier League title after winning the last eight games of the final stretch of the season to pull ahead of second-place Ahly with four points and finish with an impressive total of 80.

Zamalek last won the domestic competition in 2014-15 season.
Carteron first won over the fans after leading the Whites to win the Egyptian Super Cup and African Super Cup titles in 2019.
