Comoros break Ghanaians hearts with historic Afcon win over Black Stars

 

 

It may be a tiny island but the national men’s team of Comoros are strong enough to break the hearts of millions of Ghanaians.

Although considered an ‘underdog’, Comoros Island its first-ever Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) victory over Ghana on Tuesday night, January 18, 2022.

Ghana needed a win to qualify for the next stage of the tournament which is taking place in Cameroon.

The Black Stars put up their worst performance ever in recent years in a major tournament.

Ghana opened its Afcon 2021 campaign with a late 1-0 defeat to Morocco.

The Black Stars went on to draw with Gabon in their second match.

Comoros lost their first match to Gabon on a 1-0 scoreline. They lost again to Morocco on a 2-0 scoreline.

Ghana needed to win Comoros to progress.

But the match ended with a major heart, with captain Andrew Ayew picking up a straight red card in the first half.
