Chelsea could well be looking to offload quite a few of their current squad members this season and go through somewhat of a revamp.
With player contracts running down this summer and next, and a few disgruntled souls within the current setup after lack of game time, the new Chelsea owners will have a big task on their hands this summer and may need to do a bit of squad rebuilding.
However, one major thing about this is that if this is to happen, Chelsea will need to be prepared to take a hit on some of these players. There is no way we are going to get anywhere near the £71m we paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018, just as an example. I can’t even see us getting near the low £15m fee we paid for Ross Barkley either to be honest.
It will be just like tearing off a plaster, it might hurt, but it needs to be done.
Certain people in the boardroom will be hurt as well after it was probably some of their decisions that we signed some of these players in the first place. But it is important now that we just finally offload a lot of the deadwood players such as Tiemoue Bakayoko, Michy Batshuayi, Marcos Alonso, Baba Rahamn, Kenedy, Matt Miazga, as well as a number of the first team squad as well who might not be classed as deadwood but are probably unhappy with lack of gametime and just need to be sold.
If a player doesn’t want to be at this club, then sell them regardless. How is Romelu Lukaku’s future ever going to be at Chelsea now? We paid £100m for him so if we sell him now, we are simply just going to have to take a big hit and we have to just accept that.
It’s either that or keep players in the squad who are unhappy and do not want to be here. If that happens, it will only reflect on the pitch and in performances. We need to rebuild with players that want to be at the club and want to work for Tuchel and buy into his system and plans.
