Chelsea lodge £56m bid for Inter Milan wing back Hakimi

Chelsea have launched a bid of £56m to sign Inter Milan wing-back Achraf Hakimi.

Hakimi is attracting interest from several clubs across Europe with Inter Milan needing to raise funds to combat spiralling debts, with Paris Saint-Germain having also submitted a bid for the Moroccan international.

The 22-year-old signed for the Italian side from Real Madrid in a £40m deal and enjoyed an impressive debut season at the San Siro, scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions.

Inter were crowned as Serie A champions for the first time in 11 years during the 2020/21 season, though have since seen manager Antonio Conte depart after being informed by the hierarchy of the club’s need to cut costs.

Hakimi is one of Inter’s most saleable assets and Sky Sports are reporting that Chelsea have now matched PSG’s offer, though it remains short of Inter’s €80m (£68.8m) valuation of the player.

Chelsea’s hopes are boosted by Inter’s interest in signing both Andreas Christensen and Emerson Palmieri, though the Italians want the latter on a loan deal, with the west London out fit keen on a permanent switch.

Hakimi is comfortable on both flanks and in a more advanced position with the wing-back seemingly tailor-made for the system Thomas Tuchel has implemented since his arrival at the newly-crowned European champions.

Chelsea are also understood to be interested in signing a new centre-forward and have been linked with Hakimi’s Inter Milan teammate, Romelu Lukaku, whilst West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is also said to be on the club’s radar.
