Celtic legend Bertie Auld funeral details confirmed

CELTIC have confirmed the details of the upcoming funeral for legendary player Bertie Auld.

The club have stated that the service will take place in St Mary of the Assumption in the Calton area of Glasgow.

For fans to pay their respects, the funeral procession will then make its way down the Celtic Way.

The chapel service will begin at 12pm on Friday November 26, and pass Celtic Park at approximately 1.30pm. 

The funeral will be broadcast live on Celtic TV and the club’s YouTube channel so that fans can also watch from afar.

A news post on the club’s website read: “Bertie Auld’s funeral will take place at 12noon next Friday, November 26, 2021 in St Mary of the Assumption, Abercromby Street, Calton, Glasgow.”

Following the service, the funeral cortege will pass by Celtic Park and down The Celtic Way at approximately 1.30pm.

For those coming to Celtic Park to pay tribute to Bertie, we are also working on installing a big screen on the Celtic Way so that supporters at the stadium can also watch the service.”

Bertie passed away last Sunday at the age of 83, and fans and players are planning special tributes for him at the Premier Sports cup semi-final at Hampden this weekend.

Ultra group the Green Brigade are honouring the Libson Lion with a mosaic before kick-off, followed by another tribute during the 67th minute of the game. 

Players also plan to wear Bertie’s number 10 on their shorts as they face St Johnstone.
