CELTIC coach Gavin Strachan has snubbed interest from Hartlepool United in making him their new boss, according to reports.

It was reported yesterday that Gavin – son of former Hoops and Scotland boss Gordon – moved ahead of Jonathan Woodgate at the top of the betting market.

But the Daily Mail report the 42-year-old, who turned out for the English League Two club between 2003 -2007, will NOT be succeeding Dave Challinor.

The Pools currently sit 17th in their domestic league and have lost their last five league games.

Strachan joined Celtic in June 2020 as a first-team coach, replacing John Kennedy who was promoted to assistant manager.

He arrived at the club during Neil Lennon’s tenure but has remained a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s backroom team.

The Hoops are back in action on Thursday night against Hearts following their weekend win over Aberdeen.

Callum McGregor’s bizarre winner secured all three points.

The games continue to come thick and fast with Celtic on the road to Tannadice to face Dundee United on Sunday before welcoming Real Betis to Glasgow next Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Charlie Nicholas reckons Celtic need to bring in THREE new faces during the January transfer window.

And his top target would be Hibs starlet Josh Doig – who he sees in the Kieran Tierney mould.

Postecoglou added the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Josip Juranovic, Carl Starfelt, Joe Hart and Cameron Carter-Vickers during the summer as he began his overhaul of the Hoops squad.

Currently currently trail rivals Rangers by four points at the top of the Premiership and have been eliminated from the Europa League group stages – but will now take their place in the knockout stages of the Conference League.

Ex-Parkhead striker Nicholas has highlighted how the defence was once again exposed against Leverkusen in Germany and he reckons his old club need – despite adding a lot of players in the summer – more at the back.
